Let's Talk Depression
A personal journey out of the doom

Hey folks,
I hope you’re all keeping well.
I want to talk about something serious today, and before you roll your eyes or brace yourself for a self-help monologue, just hear me out for a second.
The black dog
Depression. That old, wraithlike revenant who comes a-knocking. Some of you are dealing with it right now. I’ve been down in the depths, too. Hell, I still meet the Black Dog on the road occasionally.
But there’s something I’ve learned that helps deal with it before it takes over. And no, it’s not positive thinking or pretending everything’s fine.
Depression doesn’t just appear out of nowhere, even if it feels like it does.
You might think, nah, I just wake up feeling like an empty husk of a human for no reason. But, look, it’s not random.
There’s always a reason, even if it’s buried under years of habit, avoidance, conditioning, or just the sheer chaos of life.
I know this because I was in the thick of it myself. So much so that, for a while, I didn’t see a way forward; I’d stare out over the balcony at night, hearing the call of the infinite void.
And when you’re in that place, everything feels pointless.

The shift
But something shifted when I stopped treating my emotions like some ghostly force that just happened to me and started actually looking at what was going on inside.
And, okay, this can be the part where people start tuning out, because the answer isn’t a quick fix or a Tony Robbins motivational speech. It’s deeper than that.
You have to do the inner work. The stuff most of us avoid. The stuff that, if you actually sit with it, will tell you exactly why you feel the way you do.
It wasn’t until I started unpacking my own mental state, getting real about what was driving those feelings, through attending therapy sessions that I began to see a way through. And now, I help people do the same.
So, if this is hitting home for you, if you’re sick to the back teeth of going in circles with this stuff, let’s talk. I’m a mental health counselor, and I work with people who want to actually do something about this, not just push it aside until it comes back worse.
